CPR

CPR
I directly supervised CPR which was continuously being performed per AHA guidelines in addition to other critical activities.
Provider: Self
Total CPR time: [See nursing notes]

Charting Tips

  • The documentation for CPR is fairly simple and the provider supervising is able to bill even if they are not the one doing compressions.
  • The most important aspect of CPR documentation is the total CPR time. This is a total time of all episodes of cardiac arrest.
  • It is probably okay to say “see nursing documentation” but that makes it harder for the coders to find the information and if they can’t find it, they won’t bill for it.
  • CPR is treated like any other procedure so the time spent supervising CPR is excluded from critical care time. The time before arrest and/or after ROSC is obtained is included in critical care.
