Appropriate consent was obtained and is documented on the chart. The skin overlying the joint was prepped and draped in a sterile fashion. The skin was anesthetized using [2]cc of 1% lidocaine with epinephrine. Under constant aspiration, a [20]ga needle was advanced into the joint space. [Clear/Bloody/Purulent] fluid was evacuated from the joint. A total of [10]cc of fluid was removed. The needle was removed and bleeding was controlled. There were no major complications and the patient tolerated the procedure well. Synovial fluid samples were sent to the lab for analysis.
