The patient’s gastrostomy tube was inadvertently removed/dislodged prior to their arrival to the Emergency Department necessitating prompt exchange or replacement of the tube. The stoma appears well granulated without apparent bleeding. Verbal consent was obtained prior to the procedure. The stoma was coated with a lubricating jelly. A [16]fr G-tube was obtained, the balloon was inflated and inspected for leaks, and the tip of the tube was coated in lubricating jelly. Gentle pressure was applied and the tube was easily advanced into the stomach. The balloon was inflated with the recommended amount of sterile saline and the the tube was secured. Gastric-appearing fluid was easily aspirated. The patient tolerated the procedure well and there were no complaints. Placement was verified using contrast injection in the tube and plain radiography.
